Program Assistant

Position Overview:
The Employee will be employed as a Support Worker for People with Disabilities in a skill-building and educational setting, focusing on teaching skills needed in a Food Service Environment. The role also entails providing support to individuals during their transition into employment. The job encompasses practicing safe food handling, customer service, baking, cooking, cleaning, and inventory management.

Responsibilities:
1. Provide individualized support to people with disabilities in a skill-building and educational environment, specifically focusing on food service skills.
2. Teach and mentor individuals in safe food handling practices, emphasizing hygiene, sanitation, and proper food storage.
3. Instruct and guide individuals in customer service skills, fostering effective communication and interactions.
4. Facilitate learning in baking and cooking techniques, adapting to individuals’ preferences and dietary requirements.
5. Provide guidance on cleaning procedures, maintaining a tidy and organized food service environment.
6. Teach inventory management skills, including stock monitoring, ordering, and record-keeping.
7. Collaborate with the individuals to identify their strengths, interests, and goals related to food service employment.
8. Create and implement personalized plans to support individuals in their skill development and employment transition within the food service industry.
9. Foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment that promotes learning, growth, and teamwork.
10. Collaborate with other team members, including educators and therapists, to ensure comprehensive support for the individuals.
11. Keep accurate and up-to-date records of individual progress and support provided.
12. Maintain open and effective communication with families, guardians, and other stakeholders as required.
13. Participate in training sessions and professional development to enhance food service skills and stay updated on best practices.
14. Uphold confidentiality and privacy of the individuals and the organization both during and after employment, refraining from sharing any sensitive information without proper authorization.

To apply for this job, you must: Be aged between 15 and 30 years old on the start date of the job; Have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN); and Be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada, or a person who has been granted refugee status in Canada. International students and other temporary residents of Canada are not eligible. 
Having the following experience/certifications will be an asset in the hiring process:
-Food Safety Handlers Certificate
-WHIMIS Training
-an educational focus in a supportive profession such as Occupational Therapy, Autism and Behaviour Science, Educational Assistant, etc.
